Student internships expand opportunities for Baltimore youth

Humanim’s Youth Transition Services (YTS) was awarded a $20,000 grant by The Rota Foundation due to the organization’s mission of serving Baltimore and Maryland youth. Humanim’s YTS focus is to build economic equity, opportunity, and independence for individuals who face social and economic challenges.

During the past 50 years despite expanding into a variety of service realms supportive of the underserved, including housing, behavioral health and autism services, the crux of Humanim’s work continues to center on workforce development for individuals with disabilities.

YTS offers a holistic model grounded in meeting individuals where they are and building on their strengths. Participants begin with YTS’ virtual career development curriculum, followed by paid internships that align with their interests and with Maryland’s most in‑demand industries—including healthcare, customer service, STEM‑related fields, and skilled trades.

After their student internships are completed the YTS team assists participants in securing employment and continues working with them, their families, and their employers to ensure smooth transitions and strong outcomes.

"Thanks to the Rota Foundation’s generous support, Humanim’s Youth Transition Services continues to grow in reach, deepen its community roots, and improve outcomes for Maryland’s youth within our most in demand industries. Your investment is helping us bridge longstanding gaps in transition services, build stronger connections between schools and employers, and ensure young people—particularly those facing systemic inequities—have access to the opportunities, skills, and guidance they need to succeed. We look forward to continuing our partnership and sharing future progress with you."
